Start Up Workshop Series

VAWC is excited to announce our Start Up Workshop Series, a four-part series happening from this December through March, 2022.
VAWC is currently supporting four start up worker co-ops as well as seeing several new members of our existing member co-ops. We designed this four-part (virtual) series tailor-made for this resurgence of interest in the worker co-op model.

Here are the four workshops of the series:

Participation in Worker Co-ops and Collectives
December 7, Tuesday, 6 – 7:30 pm

Why is working at a worker co-op different? How do you constantly improve? How are co-ops structured? How do you create informative proposals? What’s the difference between structure and governance? What are best practices for organizing meetings?

The Co-operative Movement: Intro and Beyond
January 11, Tuesday, 6 – 7:30 pm

Who cares about my co-op? How can we maximize our model and our relationships with those who share it? Why does Co-op Month matter? How do co-ops achieve shared success?

Register here:

Financial Literacy and Open Book Practices
February 15, Tuesday, 6 – 7:30 pm

What are your financial goals? How much do you have in reserves? What are the advantages of co-ops and financials? Why am I only hearing these questions now?

4th Workshop: To Be Determined…By You!
March 8, Tuesday, 6 – 7:30 pm

Input from attendees will decide the subject of the final workshop.

Collectives and co-operatives thrive on educated, engaged members and this series will feature best practices, skill sharing activities among attendees and materials for you to take back to your co-op. Though these are geared to new co-ops, all are encouraged to attend and new members of existing co-ops would be perfect for this, too.

Admission: $25 per person per session
Free for members & employees of VAWC Member Co-ops
