Full Service Printing and Publishing

Collective Copies is a worker owned, worker controlled union copy shop, opened in 1983 after a strike against Gnommon Copy, a regional copy chain. We offer full copying and printing services: business cards and brochures, letterhead and envelopes, invitation and post cards, mailing labels and labelling software, folding and binding, typesetting and fax services, and much more.

What kind of impact are you making if you use Collective Copies?

We’re worker run and stock only recycled paper. By doing so we have a significant impact on our environment and economy.

The first printers were also publishers

These noble careers diverged as the cost of owning newer, high speed printing equipment became too expensive an investment for most publishers. Those publishers who continued to print, and there are a number in theConnecticut Valley of Massachusetts, preserve the hands-on creation of fine works of art and literature. Adastra Press, Kat Ran Press, Pennyroyal Press, Swamp Press, and Warwick Press all work locally, carrying on a 500-year-old tradition, creatively combining letterpress, offset, and high-resolution digital imaging.

Levellers Press, formed by the worker-owners of Collective Copies in 2009, comes from a completely different direction to a publishing world in flux.

Our Co-op to Co-op Retail Centers

There’s more ways you can go co-op. We have Fair Trade coffee, chocolate, tea and snacks from Equal Exchange, skin and body care products from Co-op 108, canning sets from Fagor, and seeds from Fedco.

Our commitment to our environment

Since our start in 1983 we’ve focused on recycled paper and alternative paper products. We’re proud to only stock recycled papers in our shops. We choose the best for our customers and use 100% post consumer recycled paper in all of our self serve machines. We save more trees, tropical deforestation, carbon emissions and water this way, and we save more than any other copy shop we know. Check out National Resources Defense Council’s page on why its important to buy recycled. We participate in Native Energy’s carbon offset and renweable energy program, as well.

Proud to be part of the Worker Co-operative movement

Collective Copies is just one part of the local, regional, national and international worker cooperative movement. In addition to being founding members of VAWC, we’re also happy to be a member of the United States Federation of Worker Cooperatives and founders of the Eastern Conference for Workplace Democracy. For information about cooperatives across the globe check out CICOPA, the International Organisation of Industrial, Artisanal and Service Producers’ Co-operatives. Collective Copies is also a union shop in the United Electrical Radio and Machine Workers of America, Local 274, better known as UE.
